JESUS IS THE MASTER CONDUCTOR OF OUR LIVES! (1/12/12)

KRISTINE

"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."                                                     Psalm 37:4

If your child was able to meet someone that they greatly admire, who would it be? Would it be a famous athlete from a professional sports team? Perhaps it would be a member from a popular band or a movie star? For my youngest who has dreams of Broadway dancing in her head at night, meeting a member of a theater cast is extremely exciting, but when she discovered that she may have the opportunity to meet someone from the cast of Wicked, which is the story that took place before theWizard of Oz and her absolute favorite musical of all time, she was ecstatic!

It was one of those "friend of a friend" types of situations where a few weeks prior to the performance to which we had tickets, we learned that our dear friends knew someone who was going to be playing in the orchestra pit. Knowing how much Kristine loved this musical, our friends asked him if perhaps he could get us backstage and show her around. She was absolutely thrilled with this possibility, but not knowing if all the pieces could come together, I cautioned her as we drove in the car that night, "I just don't want you to be disappointed if this doesn't work out."

Our instructions were to meet "Justin" by the stage door immediately after the performance. After the final curtain call, we raced as fast as we could to the designated location and told the security guard that we were waiting for Justin. "Oh, he told me he was expecting guests so just wait here," replied the security guard, (Later on, we would learn that Justin was also the name of one of the leads in the play.)

It was very exciting being a theater groupie as we stood and watched numerous cast members leave through the stage door. At one point, we noticed a gentleman standing outside by the doors, but we continued to wait inside for Justin. After a little time had passed, another person exited from the stage door. We asked if he was in the cast, and he stated that no, he actually played an instrument in the orchestra pit. We got very excited and asked if he knew "Justin," to which he replied, "there is no one named Justin in the pit."   Perplexed, I pulled out my phone and reread the text message to discover that the actual name of the person that we were suppose to be waiting for was "Philip"! So, we then asked the same gentleman if he knew Philip? "Oh yeah, he's been standing waiting outside but it looks like he just left!" I watched my daughter's heart sink right before my very eyes. Disappointed, I suggested that we should probably leave, but she requested that we wait just a little longer.

Minutes later, the entire main cast exited through the stage door! Kristine looked at me and declared, "If I don't talk to them, I will regret this for the rest of my life!" Striving to keep her composure as much as possible, she walked over and asked if she could get a picture with them. Immediately, the entire group extended an abundance of genuine kindness. Not only did they pose for pictures, they stood and gave approx. 15 minutes of their time, explaining where they went to college, how to pursue a performing career, and other extremely encouraging words. Then, one of the cast members said, "I'm headed to Broadway tomorrow. Do you want my script?" He then presented Kristine with a black blinder that contained the entire score of the musical. Even Glenda the Good Witch looked at Kristine and stated, "WOW... that's a pretty big deal! I would never give away my script!" Then someone else suggested, "Well if she's getting the script, who has a black sharpie so that we can all sign it?" and I watched Kristine's eyes fill with tears as everyone passed the binder around and autographed it. When it was completely autographed, the group bid us farewell, and as soon as they were completely out of sight, Kristine released one of the loudest screams I've ever heard escape from her lips!

Driving home, we had fun discussing what a sweet gift God just given her and how only He could have orchestrated that sequence of events. If it had gone the original way that we thought was intended, none of the sequence of events would have occurred. If we would have left when I suggested, we would have also missed this awesome opportunity. Later on, we laughed at my, "I just don't want you to be disappointed," comment.

As I laid in bed that night replaying the entire scenario again in my head, I was just in awe of what a loving God we have who is involved all the large and small details of our lives.

During this New Year, may you be able to see His hand at work in all facets of your life. Large or small, the Lord is in control of them all!

In His love,

Mrs. Palka
