St. Matthew Lutheran School was established in 1957 by the members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church who strongly believed in and supported Christian education. Over fifty years later, St. Matthew continues to provide strong spiritual benefits and academics that are not available at other schools.

The goal of St. Matthew Lutheran School is to cultivate each student’s spiritual relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, while cultivating his/her intellect. Not only is it important for our students to learn what God’s Word says, but more importantly, to apply it to their daily lives.

St. Matthew strives for excellence in all aspects in education. We consistently upgrade technology as evidenced by our fully equipped computer lab, wireless portable lab, and SMART-boards in Grade 1-8 classrooms. We value teacher professional development, and our teachers receive training throughout the school year in current best practices for reading and writing.

Our school follows the curriculum benchmarks established by the State of Michigan and replaces textbooks on a rotating schedule to ensure that the most current information is taught.

When students leave St. Matthew, not only are they are extremely prepared for high school academics but more importantly, we strive for them to be vibrant Christian witnesses in all aspects of their lives.

Our main priority is to provide a quality Christian education for each of our students. The benefits of St. Matthew don't end there, however. Our teachers are highly qualified and state certified to ensure that state benchmarks and NLSA accreditation standards are not only successfully met, but surpassed. Our students consistently score well above MEAP averages for the State of Michigan (see the chart below):

St. Matthew students score around 20 points higher in all measured areas: reading, science, writing, and math.
